Our Shield Of Faith

Eph 6:16 ] In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.

Sunday night we realized that Nekoda had been bit by a spider. We are not sure what type although from looking at the pictures online it was most likely a brown recluse. We immediately cleaned the infected area and called a friend who is a God send to us with her knowledge in health. She and her husband (who is also Tony’s cousin) came right over with all kinds of things to combat the poison that the spider had injected into Nekoda’s leg. We made up a poultice of Charcoal and gave him herbal teas along with Vitamin C. Cheryl also gave us two items called Silver Shield. Nekoda’s leg has been consistently healing since the first application of the Charcoal and looked amazingly well this morning when we changed the bandage.

As usual God used the natural to speak in spiritual terms to me. I have thought a lot about this “shield” application that we are placing on Nekoda’s leg being like our shield of faith. But also the fact that we constantly do things such as excercise, eat things that are healthy, and we also take vitamins that build up our immune system. See, Nekoda does all this, but it didn’t stop the spider from biting him. However, I believe it DID make a huge difference on the ability of the venom to do harm to our son.

We as believers have the power to do the same in our lives. I happen to love what 2 Peter has to say about this in chapter 1; [3 ] His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, [4 ] by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. [5 ] For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, [6 ] and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, [7 ] and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. [8 ] For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Do you see how we are building up our “Immunity” in the spirit world when we are studying and applying the Word of God? We cannot wait until a catastrophe happens in our lives and decide to pick up our shield of faith that we have NEVER exercised or strengthened and be victorious in the fight we are now facing.

Nekoda’s leg is responding well to the medication we are putting on it but it is doing so because he has built up his immune system for years.

Let’s dig into the Word, building up our faith so that when the enemy comes and injects his poison into our lives, we can pick up our shield and use it, knowing that God will get the victory in this fight, this “spider” just bit the wrong person!

Matthew 13:18 “Hear then the parable of the sower: [19 ] When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path. [20 ] As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, [21 ] yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. [22 ] As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. [23 ] As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”
(Matthew 13:18-23 ESV)

We love to garden. In fact this year we have doubled our garden’s size to accommodate our vegetable consumption. I love every stage of gardening. I love working the soil, making the rows, planting the seed, watching for that seed to sprout, watching the plants grow and then bloom, and the best part of all is seeing and harvesting the fruit from those plants! We have bought all our garden seed for this year and it sits in our laundry room waiting to be put into soil.

Much of what we have learned lately may be elementary to some people. But it has closed a gap in my spirit. I have heard many, many teachings on the seed being the Word of God. I have heard many teachings on reaping what you sow. I have heard many teachings on the lack of the Word being taught but somewhere along the way, I had missed a crucial element.

I am writing this blog to the ones who may be like I was… not understanding HOW to plant the Word into my situation. It is a simple and yet profound teaching. Confession. We live in a time where words fly back and forth like nothing else. We have Phones, Texting, Email, Facebook, Twitter, and so on, all about words. The Bible says a lot about your words. Jesus said a lot about your words. I would like to encourage you to start looking up and studying how many times the power of your words is mentioned in the Bible. It will be life changing!

What has stood out to me the most during the past two months is the fact that I need to KNOW what God says about my life, today, so that I can change what my harvest looks like tomorrow.

For example; if the seeds sitting in my laundry room represent God’s Word to me and the empty garden is my life at the moment, then what will change the future of my life? Planting that seed! When I am going through something, perhaps financial difficulty, or a desire to conceive, or be productive all I need to do is get in the WORD, watching for what God is saying to me and WHEN He does, speak that into my life.  Sound simple? It is. The problem is that the enemy wants to keep all these things from believers so he will distort this truth until we either don’t ever hear it such as myself or we push it aside and title it “sensationalism”.

Right before Christmas as I was reading one morning in a book titled “The Power of Your Words”, I was struck to the core of my spirit with what the Holy Spirit was teaching me… “Deanna, you have been taught so much against ‘Name it, Claim it’, I am telling you, ‘If I name it, you claim it!”  WOW! What a revelation! He is the One who is responsible for naming blessings in my life! My job IS to claim THOSE blessings, and how do I do that? Confession!

I hope this helps someone out there who may be struggling with these concepts. Maybe you have never been able to put your struggles into questions… Find out what God says about your life today. Write the verse down and start memorizing it. Every time the enemy comes to you with doubt, fear, unbelief, you speak that Word out loud until you are fully persuaded God will bring it to pass!

Romans 4:21 fully convinced that God was able to do what He had promised.

Jeremiah 1:12 Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.”

Faith~ My Faith

Habakkuk 2:4b “but the righteous shall live by his faith.”

Matthew 21:22 “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

Hebrews 10:39  But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.

I can’t honestly say I have never thought of some of the things that we have been learning recently. In my walk with Christ, even as a young girl, I had questions about certain things that just seemed to never be answered.

Why did we not see miracles today?

Why was there so much sickness in the church?

Why were people so mean to each other?

Why could some people not see their need for Christ?

And the list could go on and on… During the past two months my husband has been experiencing a revival in his walk with Christ and leading his family down the same path. There have been some moments of awe and wonder like the healing some of you know about that took place in my body right before Christmas, the prayers that have been answered, and the Word coming alive to each of us in this home. But there have also been some trials along with this new growth. Feelings. Feelings that don’t line up with the Word and what God has been teaching us. I have dealt with discouragement, confusion, frustration and these again are just a few. But, I always have to come back to the Word and get my thoughts put back into check. I was having a conversation with my sister-in-law the other day, sharing with her my frustrations. She made a statement to me that has gone over and over in my mind. This may not be a direct quote but it went something like this… “Before we learn something, we cannot act on it. After we learn it, it becomes a revelation that we are then accountable to obey.” I thought about this a lot on my way home from her house and even now three days later. This truth speaks volumes to my spirit. I desire my faith to grow, yes, but as Bro. Lee said recently, “when the disciples asked the Lord to increase their faith, Jesus basically told them to use the faith they had already been given.” The Word says He has given to all man the measure of faith. (Romans 12:3)  I am learning to use mine!

I am very excited to think about what 2011 holds in store for our family. Learning to take God at His Word because He is Truth, Faithful, and our Great God is an exciting adventure! May He work wonders in us and through us!
