I love how the Word of God connects with itself. I love how you can read a verse you may have read a thousand times but when the time is right, God brings that verse to life and connects it with another! I had this happen yesterday. I had told my children that I wanted them to do a word study on the word “light”, look it up in their Bible concordance and write down what each verse said to them about God and light. Well, I have a standard I  try to hold myself to; When I ask my children to do something, I try to do the same thing.

I wrote down about twenty references from my concordance to start with… started thumbing through the pages of my Bible looking them all up and then writing down beside the reference what the Lord was showing me.

BAM! Had a moment! I came to Matthew 4:16 “the people dwelling in darkness
have seen a great light,
and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death,
on them a light has dawned.”

Ummm, “What was that?” “…and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.” Please tell me you connected this with another verse… maybe, the words to a song that you sing in church…

Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Do you see it?! I don’t know about you, but I have had many times/periods of my life where I seemed to be not “walking” through the valley of the shadow of death, but instead I seemed to be “dwelling” there.

You may ask why these verses are so powerful to me… I will gladly tell you. When I am walking  or dwelling in a dark season of  my life, I NEED to know that God is with me. I love that according to these two verses I can believe that not only is He with me, but He is my LIGHT during that season!

Light in the darkness brings  comfort, warmth, knowledge… and so on. He is all of that! Are you going through a dark season? Do shadows seem to be over powering you? He is the light in that season. Ask Him to reveal His Word, His presence, His power to you… bask in the Light He gives and know that “the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has NOT overcome it.” Jn 1:5

Shine THE LIGHT, Please.

1 John 1:5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

I am blessed to be married to a great, meticulous painter. I admit however, I haven’t always appreciated his skill. It has been the cause of some tension during times of painting our home… no, my lack of skill in this area has been the cause… well, whatever the cause, you get the point.

This past Friday and Saturday evenings were spent painting our little girls room. Tony found it within himself to allow me in the room, if not to help paint, to keep him company. 🙂 After he was done rolling the walls with the “One coat” paint we purchased, he asked me to retrieve the small flashlight we keep handy. Coming back into the freshly painted room I was thrilled with the outcome of the particular color we had picked. It was perfect!

Tony finished in a corner and asked me to shine the light over on the wall. As I did, I saw  all the imperfections on the wall. The spots that the paint roller did not cover with the “one coat” paint. Tony came over and rolled again… we went over the whole room just like this… in our finding, Tony makes the comment, “Amazing what a little light will do.” immediately I thought of the above verse which has become one of my favorites in the past five weeks. The Lord has brought it to mind over and over again.

Yesterday morning, we sit down after worship, pull out our bibles, and guess which passage our pastor spoke on? YEP! I was so blessed by God confirming to me that HE IS LIGHT!

The closer we get to Him the more imperfections we start to see in our lives. I start to see such filth and areas that need His blood covering, if I am not careful, in my pride,  it can be depressing. But yet the Word of God tells us to turn toward that light, so that we can be refreshed! (Acts 3:19)

Today, I need the Lord to shine His light on me, to make me look at the areas that need His covering, and ask Him to do what only He can do! So, go ahead, Lord, Shine Your Light

You Are There

Genesis 48:15b…“The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life long to this day,
16 the angel who has redeemed me from all evil…

Isaiah 63:9  In all their affliction he was afflicted,
and the angel of his presence saved them;
in his love and in his pity he redeemed them;
he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.

Isaiah 46:4 even to your old age I am he,
and to gray hairs I will carry you.
I have made, and I will bear;
I will carry and will save.

When my very first days began,

Before I was completely formed,

You held me in Your hand.

When my eyes squinted at the bright and sudden light,

My cry sounding out,

You calmed my hearts fright.

When my days consisted of fun and play,

You watched over me,

Smiling at my childish antics throughout the day.

When my fears started coming at such a young age,

And I would worry over issues that now seem strange.

You gave me a desire to know who You were,

Turning my focus toward You,

Creating in my soul, a deep spiritual stir.

When I was in deep over my head,

Didn’t know where to turn,

You spoke to me, You became my daily Bread.

When my mind was confused by lies spoken,

You alone brought clarity,

Even when it left me broken.

Broken for a time, In You I found healing,

You became my life, my breath, yes, my everything.

Though some days seem long and winding,

And sorrows seem to prevail,

I know that You are right beside me,

Leading me on this upward trail.

Let me not forget to reach out and take Your hand,

Looking at Your beautiful face,

Remembering Who You are,

So full of mercy and grace!

In the good times and bad,

You have been here all along,

Making my soul in You, glad.

Giving my heart a joyful song.

It’s all about You my Shepherd, my King.

If the sun is shining or the rains, they do fall,

My days are Yours no matter what they bring!

At night, when the lights are all off,

 When slumber seems far away,

I try to think of happy birds, singing in a hay loft.

I say, “tonight is scarier than yesterday.’

Then I do what I should have done before, I pray.

I say, “To the Heavenly Father above,

The One who gave me Love,

Take away this fright,

With all your power and all your might.”

I will never forget that night,

When I could feel God, holding me tight.

Now I am well in age,

Telling my children,

Be not afraid of sudden fear,

For the Lord is always near.
