Paid For And Hidden

Romans 8:1-3

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin,  he condemned sin in the flesh.

I have been attempting to memorize the eighth chapter of Romans, but not just to memorize it but to have the understanding of it “tattooed” on my heart!

This morning, I tore apart the first three verses and have decided to journal about it on my blog.

8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

What is it about this verse that comforts so many believers?

Colo 3:3 says “ For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” The reason why there is no condemnation is not, no, never related to my righteousness, or unrighteousness, but rather is totally dependant on being “hid” with Christ! His righteousness allows for NO condemnation for Deanna Gott!

2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you  free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

We are, I am set free by the Spirit of life! How? Again this happens IN Christ Jesus!

Col 3:14a ” When Christ Who is your life“… Jesus is my very life!

Sin always has a law of death that follow it! No matter what status you hold in life, where you have been in your past, what accomplishments you “hang on your wall”, sin will always precede death! But, through and in Christ you and I have been set free from this law of sin and death!

3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin,  he condemned sin in the flesh.

The law had no power over Deanna’s sin except the power of condemnation! My flesh was so weak and bound so tightly to sin, that I could never live up to the law. But God, knowing this, and loving me, desiring to bring Himself glory through the salvation of my soul, sent His Own Son to take the penalty for my sin! Coming in human form and yet remaining completely sinless, He paid the price for my sin, therefore, condemning SIN! Jesus is the Only one who could have ever done such an act and I am ever grateful to Him! May my life be a fragrant offering of thankfullness to Him!

Being Filled Is A Choice.

I was reading in Eph 5 this morning and it starts out like this,

Eph 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.

I stopped and thought about that. Why do you think it is so hard for us to be imitators of God? Why in a stressful situation am I more likely to imitate the old man, than Christ who dwells within me? I came to the conclusion that it is related with the second part of the verse. “as beloved children”. If I am secure, absolutely secure in the love of God, my Father, than I am a WHOLE lot less likely to react as if I have something to prove.

As I read on these verses jumped out at me,

18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

There is a stark contrast between someone with alcohol in their system and some one who is filled with THE Spirit of God.

Debauchery means according to Websters, “excessive indulgence to sensual pleasures”.

Someone who gets “filled/drunk” on wine or other false gods, will have little to no power to restrain themselves from indulging in the harmful, sensual pleasures of sin.

However, when we are filled with the Spirit, we are given the power to overcome fears, encouraging each other and ourselves by speaking and living the word! Or, you could say, being “imitators of God”!

It is a whole lot easier for Deanna to fall into a sinful mindset, and not trusting God to give an all surpassing power to imitate Him, but O the rewards of trusting him, moment by moment, setting my thoughts on His love, and care for me, the grace that covers my sin of unbelief and the kindness that leads me to repent of it!

How lovely is our Father!
