A Mother’s Praise!

Matthew 19:14

but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

This morning my heart sings and soars! Why? Because last night my eleven year old ( twelve on Thursday) accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior!

My heart has been burdened for Jeremiah for a while as he seemed to lack the passion to grow in Christ. God has been so gracious to lead us to a church that supports what we do at home, in making sure that we are in Christ and then walking in fellowship with Him.. Jeremiah was convicted heavily yesterday morning in service through the message and then through a song that we sang at the end… he quoted a line which my husband and I didn’t even remember ” if you wait, it may be too late”. Then by a later conversation we had with my mother-in-law in the afternoon.. The Holy Spirit was heavy on him as we got home last night and he could wait no longer to come to us for help.

I cannot begin to describe the joy of leading someone to Christ, but when it is your own child it is amazingly indescribable! To watch him analyze and try to figure out what is going on, then to see the Holy Spirit fall on him and he begin to weep and cry out to God… Tony and I sat there and wept with him, knowing this had to be something he did.

God is so good and gracious! I had read the other day in 1 Peter these words,

9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies  will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.

11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13 But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

14 Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. 15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation

Oh what joy to to know that Jeremiah will be bringing God glory throughout his life till he stands before Him one  glorious day!

I could not begin to write another blog without first telling you this awesome praise!

Stable In All Our Ways

2 Peter 3:17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Continuing on yesterdays thinking I read 2 Peter this morning and was stopped at the end of the book where Peter warns against losing our stabilty in our walk with God…

This made me think of when I am walking or running on a treadmill and my focus becomes “zoned”. The other day, I was in this “zone” and my son, stopped me and asked me to help him set his treadmill to a certain program… I had to stop what I was doing, and help him ,therefore never gaining back the “zone” I had that day… the idea that I have is that we can become focused on God, passionate and in the “zone”  and not even realize that someone can come and cause us to lose our own stabilty in this walk…

The next verse that tells us to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord, sets this thinking in stone… if we are doing as the beginning of 2 Peter tells us,

For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue,  and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Then it will be a whole lot harder for someone to come and “help” us to stumble…

May we never be unfruitful in our knowlegde of our Lord Jesus Christ!

1 Peter 1:1

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God’s elect, strangers in the world… (NIV)

As you know from this mornings entry, I am in 1 Peter.. I am right now cooking supper and I have the bible playing on cd … I have listened to1 Peter several times this week but now as I was starting over, this verse and thus title  “strangers in the world”, has jumped out and confirmed what I felt in my spirit this morning…

” Deanna, are you a stranger in this world?”

We are in Southwest LA and have quite a few evacuee’s from east Texas that have made this their temporary home.. they are trying to find places to live, having to deal with making their way around a new town, and my most hated thing about a new place, learning a new grocery store! UGH.. anyway, I must ask myself if I am as uncomfortable in the world as a “stranger” as many of these people here…

Are We Stewards?

1 Peter 4 :1 Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God. For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry. With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you; but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does.

The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.

I am quite disturbed this morning. In fact, I am a little sick to my stomach.

Let me say this before I continue. I am what some may call “sensitive to the world”, for many reasons, I believe the main one is that I NEVER watch television. I am completely “out of touch” with the idea of what we must all be to fit in with the world, and not stand out…

Now, hopefully people will read this last comment and know that something in it is terribly wrong!

This week I have been reading in 1 Peter and have been challenged and encouraged by what I have read. This morning I read 4 and 5 again before I went to the gym… I was actually drawn more to the beginning of 5 at the time due to some recent conversations I have had with my husband and friends.. but I sat down today begin to go through my morning routine I was pretty much sickened by what I saw on the computer… without going into to much needless detail, I am just going to say that if we as Christians are going to call ourselves Christians ( which means Christ like) than I hope we convey this. If not I truly believe we “take His name in vain” and do more damage to the kingdom of God than we might ever be aware… I just have to ask myself, what does it mean to be a steward of God’s grace and do we as His bride, make this our aim?
